About Bob Walder

My wife, Dale, and I chose Poway as our home in 1998 because we wanted to raise our family in a community known for its safety, outstanding schools, and beautiful open spaces. More than 25 years later, we remain convinced it was one of the best decisions we've ever made.

Throughout my career, I've been drawn to leadership roles where solving difficult problems and building consensus mattered. I began as a Biomedical Engineer before becoming a Perfusionist and later a Physician Assistant, caring for patients during some of the most critical moments of their lives. I then spent years leading and helping build innovative healthcare companies, including Abbott Laboratories, Digirad Imaging Solutions, and TearLab, transforming new ideas into successful businesses while managing budgets, people, and complex challenges.

Even after retiring, I wasn't ready to stop serving. I returned to healthcare as an ECMO perfusionist, helping care for critically ill patients, while also volunteering with the San Diego Police Department. Today, I serve as Administrator of the Rancho Bernardo Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol, working with dedicated volunteers to improve public safety and strengthen our community.

Public service has always been part of my life. My father served as the City Clerk for Los Angeles for more than 30 years, teaching me that good government begins by listening, respecting differing opinions, and finding common ground. Those lessons continue to guide me today.

Poway is facing important decisions that will shape our future. We must protect our neighborhoods, preserve our open space, ensure public safety remains a priority, maintain our infrastructure, secure reliable water resources, and manage growth responsibly while protecting the quality of life that makes Poway unique. These challenges require thoughtful leadership, fiscal responsibility, and a willingness to listen before making decisions.

I am running for City Council because I believe experience matters. I have spent my career making difficult decisions, bringing people together, and solving problems. I will bring that same practical, common-sense approach to City Hall, always putting the residents of District 3 and the entire Poway community first.
